2013, Oil on canvas, 16"w x 11"h
My paintings have evolved from work centered on the figure and physiology. Built-up ambiguous forms hover in space and time, teetering between abstraction and figuration. The physicality of the paint alludes to the internal body and organic forms found in nature. Notions of impermanence are expressed as the paint appears to undergo a process of metamorphosis. Through the act of painting, I question possible spheres of reality and layers of existence while exploring themes of personal transformation and self-identity. Proposing that we are more than just physical bodies on this planet, my work serves as an ongoing investigation of man’s unfolding spiritual journey.
