2010, Acrylic on canvas, 72"w x 48"h
My work is about fragility, legacy, the variety of life on earth and its all consuming state and inter-dependency to survive. It is about how the extinction of species affects other things and the impact of permanency.
My painting Ecosystems is inspired by the character of ecosystem services and the complex interactions they create for a sense of place. To show the nonmaterial benefits human beings get from an ecosystem (aesthetically, spiritually and intellectually) is what I wanted to achieve.
“A human being is part of the whole, which we can call the ‘Universe’, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thought and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness … Our task must be to free ourselves … by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its astonishing beauty.”
