2011, Mixed media and acrylic on canvas, 48"w x 36"h
My paintings are about fragility, legacy, the variety of life on earth and its all consuming state and inter-dependency for survival. They are about how the extinction of species affects other things and the impact of permanency.
Sustaining Life layers black and white drawings below vibrant color to indicate how food, plant life and medicines sustain us. The transparency of seeing the drawings through the soil-like color reflects on a feeling of our environment and human condition.
My painting brings us back to the landscape and concepts of agriculture for sustaining life.
