The suburbs offer much in the way of modern conveniences and little in the way of adventure. In my work I try to create that feeling of excitement and emotion. In Mirage, I have focused on the viewer’s relationship to the figure in the work. The figure is in a dire situation and gestures out to the viewer for help, yet the viewer can only watch. On top of this emotion is the question of what, if anything, in the scene is real. I’m giving viewers minimal information regarding context or story in the hope that they create a narrative that fits the situation depicted.
