The koi in my pond become very active when rain hits the surface of the water, so the concentric circles that the rain produces are enhanced by the movement of the fish. In this oil painting I have tried to capture this high level of energy and the dramatic light and dark patterns. The vibrantly colored koi add a nice contrast to the painting. Even on a cloudy day, the effect of light on the water is always changing and intriguing to me. Painting from a photograph allows me to portray a particular moment in time.
