Oil on Yupo paper, 2016, 18"w x 24"h
My work is a result of a process-based relationship with painting and an interest in referencing a phenomenological visual experience of something in the world around us. I apply and manipulate layers of transparent fluid color, bring through textures and flatten space so that only subtle imagery remains. I surrender to what the materials can do for the image and hold back from intervening with the natural painting process, which reveals the ephemeral space I am looking for. The intent and final gratification of the work is the emulation of an indeterminate space that someone can enter.
